In addition to its incredible heights, Tibet is also one of the most isolated areas on earth, with most of the people living in elevations ranging from 1200 m to 5100 m. One of the most famous peaks found in Tibet is Mount Everest (8848 m), the highest mountain in the world.

Tibet with it's mountains is the source and dividing line of the Asian continent's major rivers, with the Brahmaputra being the most important. Many of the rivers in Tibet can be used for hydroelectricity, but this potential hasn't been developed as of yet.

Religion of Tibet
No other religion apart from Buddhism has been able to take root in Tibet. Only a small population of about 2,000 throughout Tibet have faith in Islam, while there is no trace of Christianity at all. The Bon, the aborigine religion of Tibet, a sect of Shamanism which chiefly worshipped idols and the Nature and practiced driving off of evil spirits, had at one time prevailed in Tibet but lost round with the penetration of Buddhism.

Thus, Buddhism can as well be said to the sole religion of Tibet, and the faith has taken so deep in root that it means almost everything to the Tibetans as already mentioned. Well-to-do families even built in their compound their private chapels of prayer-rooms. to begin with, the first Buddhist scripture printed in Sanskrit was said to have been descended from Heaven in the 5th century during the reign of 28th Tsanpo Tho-Tho-Ri Nyantsan. It was translated into Tibet, and later in the 8th century after the visit the Indian Master Padmasambhava, the spread of Buddhism got accelerated and religious sect started taking shape. In the 11th century the visit of the Bengali Master, Atisha, to Tibet greatly encouraged the study of Buddhism into Tibet and sowed the seed for Gelugpa, the greatest sect that was to come. Finally, in the 15th century, Tsongkapa, the great reformer of Tibetan Buddhism, came to Tibet from Qinghai and founded the Gelugopa sect, the Order of Excellence, and here after Buddhism went all-out spreading like a wild fire into Tibet and the absolute ruler both of the claret and the state is another decisive victory for Buddhism to rise to its paramount as the religion of the entire Tibetan nationality.

ABC info about Chengdu City, Sichuan Province
As the capital city of Sichuan, Chengdu is a city with many faces. On the one hand this is an incredibly modern and vibrant place. Beijing has a relatively relaxed attitude towards this city and as such, Chengdu has blossomed in terms of affluence and investment. The traditional industries of gold, silver, silk and lacquer ware have helped to make this city one of the most important centers of commerce in the country. Today, skyscrapers dominate the skyline and Japanese cars and western goods are hugely popular and widely available.

This modernization has no doubt been helped by the important role that Chengdu plays in terms of education and culture in China. Once one of the most important printing centers in the country, Chengdu has a long history as a destination for learned poets and artists to gather and seek inspiration. The great poet Du Fu, made his home here and today there are 14 colleges and an impressive university situated in the city.

Nestled amongst this affluence and development is another side to Chengdu. Traditional wooden Chinese architecture that once dominated this city can still be found in the outskirts although it is fast disappearing. What does still exist here however in abundance, is a great street life. Markets and street hawkers fill the streets dealing in everything you could possibly imagine, from snakes and snails to fortunes and foot scrubs.

Many travelers here are simply killing time or passing through en route to Tibet. This is however, a very pleasant city to do just this: feast on some great food and soak up some of the mellow atmosphere in one of the thousands of tea houses dotted about the city.

Kailash tour/Kailash Manasarovar Tour from Simikot

The route leads through a magnificent mountain area, past villages of the Thakuri, along rivers and across the Nara Lagna Pass. From the 4580m high pass you can see the vast Tibetan plateau. You will hike to the Nepali/Tibetan border till the village of Sherpa on the Tibetan side, where a vehicle will pick you up and drive to Taklakot. Geographically you are directly south of Kailash, which Hindus and Buddhists view as the "center of the world". On your way to the holy mountain you will wander along the western shore of Lake Mansarowar and camp. "There are countless beautiful landscapes in the Himalayas, in the Trns-Himalya and in ther ares of high Asia, Yet the view from Gosul Gompa cross the lake and the surrounding mountains surpasses everything I have seen", wrote Sven Hedin in "Transhimalaya" (1909).

The mighty rock dome of Kailash comes closer. Together with pilgrims from far and wide you follow the trail (Parikrama) across the Dolma La (5600m), which is adorned with countless prayer flags. It takes three days to circumambulate the snow-covered cupola of the 6714m tall mountain. In Tibetan tradition you will conclude this pilgrimage in Tirthapuri - which is one of the most important pilgrim destinations along with Kailash and Lake Mansarowar.

Almost surreal appears the canyon-like valley of the Sutlej. Imbedded lie the ruins of Tsaparang, the capital of the former kingdom of Guge. After visiting the 900 year-old site our drive through the canyon of the Sutlej starts long the north route to Lhasa. The light and shadows of the summer clouds make for a magical atmosphere, dip the barren vastness in tinges of pastel green, yellow deep blue and violet. En route, we visit two of the most sacred temples of Tibet: Tshilunpo in Shigatse and Kumbum in Gyantse. Kailash Manasarovar with Lhasa tour from Kathmandu Nepal
Introduction
Mt. Kailash, 6,740 m. is situated to the north of the Himalayan barrier, wholly within Tibet It has the unique distinction of being the most venerated yet least visited of the world's major holy places. The mountain is the supremely sacred site of four religions and billions of people. Because of its remote location in far western Tibet however, the mountain is visited by no more than a few thousand pilgrims each year. There are no trains nor planes going to the region, and by land there are only three, long and difficult, routes. Even today, with rugged over-land vehicles the journey takes weeks, and you must carry all your gasoline and supplies for the entire journey.

Hindu
Hindus believe Mt.Kailash to be the abode of Lord Shiva. Among the Hindus, Shiva is a character of apparent contradictions. He ,at once the Lord of Yoga and therefore the ultimate enunciate ascetic, yet he is also the divine master of Tantra, the esoteric science that regards sexual union as the most perfect path to spiritual enlightenment. According to legend, immortal Shiva lives atop Kailash where he spends his time practicing yogic austerities, making joyous love with his divine consort, Parvati, and smoking ganja, the sacred herb known in the west as marijuana, Hindus do not interpret Shiva's behaviors as contradictory however, but rather see in him a deity who has wisely integrated the extremes of human nature and thus transcended attachment to any particular, and limited, way of being. For a Hindu, to make the arduous pilgrimage to Kailash and have the darshan (divine view) of Shiva's abode is to attain release from the clutches of ignorance and delusion.

Hindu Pilgrims to Mt. Kailash
Given its widespread reverence as a sacred site, pilgrims from Nepal, India and Tibet have been making the strenuous journey to Kailash for more than two centuries. With almost no infrastructure in the region, pilgrims need to bring their own transportation and all food and supplies needed for the rugged journey. In addition, the pilgrimage is quite expensive.

The primary purpose of one's pilgrimage to the Kailash region is the ritual circumambulation of the sacred mountain. This undertaking is called parikrama in Sanskrit or kora in Tibetan. Hindus and Buddhists travel in a clockwise direction, while the Bon-po travel counter-clockwise. The traditional parikrama route is 52 km long and can be done comfortably in three days. Some extreme enthusiasts, however, perform prostrations for the entire journey, meaning they travel the route on their hands and knees. This slow and painful rite takes between fifteen and twenty days.

On your journey, you will encounters multiple holy peaks: Ravana Parvat, Hanuman Parvat, Padmasambhava, Manjusri, Vajradhara, Avalokiteswara, Jambeyang, Shavari, and Norseng. One continues through Dhira Puk, Shivasthal, and eventually to Dolma, which, at 18,783 feet (5725 meters) is the highest point on the voyage. This pass is said to belong to Deviparvat and is spiritually very significant
